Offering a sizeable eight ports and pass-through charging, Baseus's USB-C hub is fantastic value for money. It has both USB-A 3.0 and USB-C ports as well as two SD card slots, HDMI, audio, and ethernet ports. When we reviewed the Baseus USB-C Hub, we were fans of how you can charge multiple devices at once and how compact the hub is. It's a highly useful tool for MacBooks that are lacking in port options.

With three USB-A 3.0 ports, USB-C charging for up to 60w charge speeds, and an HDMI port capable of 4K 60HZ playback, Satechi’s sleek aluminum dock is a real winner. Its design is fantastic because it has more than enough ports, and one side is dedicated to Micro SD/SD card readers — making for a super clean desk setup. You can also get Gigabit internet thanks to the Ethernet port on the side.

At less than 30 bucks, Ugreen’s 6-in-1 USB-C hub is surprisingly versatile. It has two USB-A ports, a USB-C connector, an SD and TF card reader, and an extra USB-C port. As well as all of this, it is capable of 4K 60Hz output via the HDMI cable. It’s small, smart, and fantastic for someone looking to use their MacBook Pro on the go.

Best 8K hub
Not only is the Spigen ArcDock USB-C hub super light and durable, but it also has an 8K 60Hz HDMI port for high-quality playback, and the ethernet port is capable of 2.5Gbps transfer speeds. This makes it excellent for someone looking to create art, download big files, or watch high-quality videos. And its 85W max output makes it excellent for charging your MacBook Pro quickly.

The Anker 553 is the best choice for you if you are specifically looking to run a dual monitor setup, as it has two separate HDMI ports. However, for that purpose, it is excellent and has more than enough ports to fit the rest of your desktop.

The Dockcase Smart hub is the most expensive hub on our entire list but also the most impressive. Ripped straight out of Cyberpunk, it has a fantastic aesthetic and a built-in screen that allows you to monitor all those ports.

The Baseus 8-in-1 USB-C hub has almost everything you would need from a USB-C hub. It comes with three USB-A ports, an Ethernet port, and room for a USB-C, HDMI, and SD/TF card. It looks great in silver, offers up to 100W of charge, and has a 1GB ethernet connection. It has a nice LED screen on the top which displays the status of connections and a smart chip to avoid short circuits. It looks pretty great, is light enough to pop in your bag, and has 8 ports for tons of different uses. Given the price range, you won't be getting Thunderbolt but you do get pretty much everything else you need.
With a USB-C PD cable, it is capable of fast charging your MacBook Pro while you work, meaning you don't need to use another USB-C port on your MacBook Pro to charge. This gives you more room to plug in any necessary cables, storage solutions, and more.
When charging, the hub can get a little hot and we would have loved to see another USB-C port but this is an excellent little device at a great price.

Satechi’s Multi-Port USB-C hub has a lovely look in grey, with a sleek design. This is only further complimented by the layout of the ports. With three USB-A ports and an HDMI on one side, and Micro / SD card readers on the other side, it’s easy to pop it beside a computer and have all your cables on just one end. On the side, you can also find a USB-C cable and a Gigabit Ethernet port. This hub allows for 60W charging which can get your MacBook Pro topped up in no time — though it doesn't have a max charge as high as our last choice.
The card readers and 4K 60Hz compatible HDMI port make this perfect for video playback. It is a rather expensive hub, especially when compared to the rest of the list, and this is more of a sting when you consider there’s only one USB-C port available. However, it’s a real quality hub that looks great and feels sturdy. That price will hurt but you get. sturdy, well-built hub capable of almost anything you want to throw at it

3. Ugreen 6-in-1 USB-C hub

Reasons to avoid
If you don’t mind losing out on a Micro SD card reader or an Ethernet port, Ugreen’s 6-in-1 USB-C hub is an excellent choice for anyone on a budget. With two USB-A ports and a USB-C socket, it has plenty of connectivity for its price. As well as this, an SD/TF card reader and 4K 60Hz HDMI port make it great for watching videos on the go or connecting to some of the best portable monitors.
For a little more, you can get a few extra ports but Ugreen’s 6-in-1 USB-C hub is also great for how small it is. At just a few ounces and taking up very little space, it’s the perfect hub to just throw in a bag and connect to your MacBook Pro in a cafe. The only major port it is missing is room for an Ethernet cable, something that is great to have on a hub but not necessary if you're working on the go. That USB-C slot is also a 100W PD port which allows fast charging. You can find more impressive USB-C hubs but Ugreen's option is perhaps the best value for money out there.

4. Spigen ArcDock USB-C hub

Though Spigen’s ArcDock is on the pricey side, this price shows in 8K 60Hz HDMI connectivity and the 2.5Gbps Ethernet port. As well as all of this, Thunderbolt USB-C connectivity means that data transfer speeds are very fast and charge time is reduced. One of the main selling points here is that 8K HDMI port so it may be a bit overkill if you aren’t planning on taking advantage of it.
With just 6 ports, you are missing out on SD/TF/Micro SD card readers but the mixture of two USB-A and two USB-C makes this a super impressive hub well worth grabbing. One of those USB-C ports allows for 100W fast charging and this hub has Thunderbolt, allowing for much quicker charge and data transfer rates. As well as this, one of the USB-A ports is USB 4.0, making it much quicker at transferring files. If you want to work in 8K and need to move over files super quickly, this is well worth the money. If you have any problems with it, Spigen's dock also comes with a 24-month warranty.

5. Anker 553 USB-C hub

Anker’s 553 USB-C hub, though a bit chunky, is a great device with two HDMI outputs for mirroring two separate screens at the same time. This is perfect for when you want to set up your MacBook Pro for work. It has two USB-A 3.0 ports, an Ethernet input, a USB-C connector, and a Micro SD/ SD card reader. If you pop it on a desk at the start of your work day, you likely won’t need any more ports. Given it has two HDMI ports, you want to make sure you can actually get the use of them before choosing this hub. It's good in a lot of ways but it might be a waste if you don't plan on taking advantage. Those two USB-A 3.0 ports allow for super fast transfer times, making this an excellent choice in a working environment.
Pass-through charging means the hub is capable of 85W charging, which means you don’t even have to plug your MacBook Pro into the mains to get everything up and running. Being a bit bigger than some of our choices on this list, you may notice the extra size but those great ports more than make up for it.

Being the coolest yet most expensive choice on our list, Dockcase’s Smart USB-C hub has ten ports, allowing for dual monitor support, three USB-A ports, one USB-C port, a display port, Ethernet input, and readers for SD and TF Cards. It’s an excellent hub that comes with a screen to display the statuses of all the ports. It is a bit expensive and Thunderbolt support would really bring it home but it’s as flashy as it is great.
That PD USB-C cable allows for fast charging and one of the two HDMIs can even run 8K 30Hz video. As well as being great for mirroring your screen, one of the USB-A slots can allow for 10Gbps transfer speeds which makes it a real workhorse in the right environment. With 10 ports, The Dockcase is incredibly well packed, and small enough to easily fit into a bag to use on the go.
In our review, we said: “Compact but with plenty of ports to play with, the Dockcase Smart USB-C Hub 10-in-1 Explorer Edition dock puts all the connectivity your Mac could need in a pint-sized package.”
Q&A
What to look for in a USB-C hub
You can always trust iMore.
This will largely depend on your needs. If you want 8K video, you could go for the Spigen ArcDock USB-C hub or the DockCase Smart USB-C hub but these might be a bit over the top if you're not looking for that support. If you just want something compact and cheap, Ugreen’s 6-in-1 USB-C hub is an excellent choice with great connectivity.
What is the best USB-C hub for you?
We were delighted to see that Apple added more ports to the MacBook Pro (M1 Pro/Max, 2021), but since then, things haven't progressed enough for our liking. The entry-level MacBook Pro with M2 chip (2022) still has just the two USB-C ports, for instance, and a headphone jack which is rarely enough for most people.
To enjoy all the essential MacBook Pro accessories, you need more than that. If you're a professional who needs high-speed data transfer rates such as for advanced graphics work, you want a Thunderbolt option like the Belkin CONNECT Pro. This one has all the power you need to power multiple monitors, as well as plenty of other ports like HDMI and SD card slots.
