Aqara has announced the release of a new HomeKit air quality sensor on Thursday, the Aqara TVOC Air Quality Monitor. As the name suggests, Aqara's latest smart accessory monitors for potentially harmful volatile organic compounds and puts measurements a glance away with an integrated E-ink display.
The Aqara TVOC Air Quality Monitor sports a compact design measuring just 2.9 x 1.6 x 0.55-inches, with the majority of the frame consisting of the dot-matrix E-ink screen. The lightweight sensor includes a magnetic mount so it can be placed on various surfaces right out of the box and is powered by two CR2450 coin batteries that keep it running for up to a year.
In addition to air quality monitoring, Aqara's sensor also measures temperature and humidity levels. Measurements are available through the Aqara app and smart home platforms and voice assistants like HomeKit, Alexa, and Google Assistant. Measurements can also be used in automation with other smart accessories, such as smart plugs that can turn on an air purifier when TVOC levels are high.
Like most of Aqara's smart accessories, the TVOC Air Quality Monitor utilizes Zigbee 3.0 wireless connectivity, which requires an Aqara hub for operation. The sensor works with the HomeKit Secure Video-capable Camera Hub G2H, and the recently released Aqara Hub M2 and M1S.
The Aqara TVOC Air Quality Monitor is available now on Amazon in the United States and Canada, with pricing starting at $44.99 USD. To celebrate the launch, Aqara is offering a promotional discount that takes 15% off of the retail price when using code TVOCPR2224 during checkout at Amazon (US only, valid through 07/24/21).
