Eve Systems has announced the release of the fourth-generation, HomeKit-enabled, Eve Energy smart plug on Tuesday. The latest Eve Energy smart plug now supports Thread wireless networking technology when paired to a HomeKit home with a HomePod mini or the upcoming Apple TV 4K.

The updated fourth-generation Eve Energy sports the same slim, single-outlet design as the previous model, one of the best smart plugs for HomeKit available. The compact frame allows for the use of two Eve Energy plugs on a standard North American outlet, and an on-device button makes it easy to toggle without having to reach for your iPhone. Eve Energy also features energy monitoring capabilities to keep an eye on consumption with estimated costs and historical data.
Thread technology enables increased reliability, faster responses, and expanded range over Bluetooth, which the previous generation Eve Energy uses for its HomeKit connection. During the HomeKit pairing process, Eve Energy will automatically switch to Thread from Bluetooth without any additional steps or actions from the user if the HomePod mini or new Apple TV 4K is available. Users can review their Thread network via the Eve for HomeKit app, which provides connection quality and routes for all Thread accessories, including those from other vendors.
The updated Eve Energy joins a handful of other Thread-enabled Eve accessories, including the Eve Door and Window contact sensor, Eve Weather outdoor temperature sensor, Eve Light Switch (European version), and our top pick for the best HomeKit sprinkler controllers, the Eve Aqua.
The fourth-generation Eve Energy is available now through Eve's online store at evehome.com for $39.95. The updated plug will also be available at Apple.com and through Amazon soon.
