How to change your Pokémon Go trainer avatar — Updated for Gen 2
Updated February 2017 with all the new avatar customization changes coinciding with the release of Gen 2 Pokémon. Dress 'em all!
Pokémon Go is unleashing Gen 2 and, at the same time, radically increasing your options when it comes to trainer costumes and clothes for your avatar. Now, not only can you change up your hat, shirt, pants, backpack, shoes, and more, you can get rid of them completely! (Well, not nude naked completely, but board-short close!)
There's also signs of much more to come, including additional clothing options you can get for medals and levels, for events, and for purchase. All of it is backed by a new Style system. Here's how it works!

Some will be made available when you get medals or advance in level, which means they'll be more exclusive and only available to trainers who have been playing for a while.
Others will be available for in-app purchase so, if you see something you simply have to have, you'll need to drop Poké Coins to get it. (Grab those Gym bonuses, get those hats!)
There may even be seasonal or special event clothing available. If done right, it could be great for both players and the game.
