  • The tech is currently on the 12.9-inch iPad Pro and expected on the new MacBook Pro models.

Even the upcoming iPad mini might get a mini-LED display.

As reported by DigiTimes, industry sources say that backlight unit supplier Radiant Optoelectronics will not only be making its technology for the upcoming 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models but the unannounced iPad mini as well.

BLU maker Radiant to kick off shipments for Apple mini-LED backlit devices in 3Q21Radiant Optoelectronics will kick off shipments of its backlight units for the upcoming mini LED-backlit MacBook Pro and iPad mini later in the third quarter, with the shipments to expand in volume in the fourth quarter, according to industry sources.

The iPad mini has gone without a redesign or a notable update for years now so it has been begging for a major refresh. Many honestly wondered if Apple was going to just drop it from its iPad lineup completely.

Thankfully, it sounds like iPad mini fans are going to get some love. The new iPad mini is expected to not only feature that mini-LED display but the unannounced A15 processor, a USB-C port, and the Smart Connector, setting the new iPad up for a whole new set of accessories.

According to 9to5Mac the new iPad mini will feature the A15 chip expected to debut in the iPhone 13. This will be based on current 5nm manufacturing processes, and we've previously heard the iPhone 13's chip will be made using a new N5 Plus manufacturing technique.9to5Mac also says that according to sources the new iPad mini will have a USB-C connector and a Smart connector like the iPad Air and the iPad Pro.

It's currently unclear exactly when the new iPad mini will be announced, but some rumors claim it could be as early as this fall.
