The BB-8 from Sphero is an app-enabled Droid straight out of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Movie tie-ins have been done before, but perhaps not in such a cool manner. Most everyone remembers the original Sphero — an awesome connected orb that can be controlled with your smartphone. The BB-8 takes what we love about Sphero and mashes it with the Star Wars universe, creating what is one of the coolest connected toys you'll ever see.
BB-8 offers some unique abilities as well. You can not only control it with the companion app from your smartphone, but it will also learn and adapt as you go. Voice commands have BB-8 do thy bidding with ease, send virtual holographic videos, and it will even patrol your base and explore autonomously.
The 7oz. BB-8 works with iPhone and Android devices, with Windows Phone support on the horizon. It runs over Bluetooth and has a range of up to 100 feet. The high-grade polycarbonate body can stand up to a few bumps and bruises, and the battery will run for about an hour before needing a recharge (which takes about 3 hours).
