Lights, camera, snap that Pokémon!
New Pokémon Snap is nearly here, and after 22 long years, we'll finally get to head out into the field once again to get the perfect pictures — for science, of course. The moment the original Pokémon Snap launched on the Nintendo 64, it became a favorite. The hope is that the sequel will capture the spirit of the original while bringing all the modern conveniences to the series. However, it should be noted that Hal Laboratory, the company that developed hte orginal, is not developing the long-anticipated sequel.
Hal Laboratory didn't just bring us Pokémon Snap. It was also responsible for most Kirby titles, such as Kirby's Dream Land and the smash hit, Super Smash Brothers. However, with this new release, Nintendo has passed the mantle to a different developer.
Pokémon Snap: The new kid in town
Established nine years ago, Bandai Namco Studios is tasked with capturing what made Pokémon Snap great and bringing it to a modern audience. This isn't the team's first collaboration with Nintendo. Bandai Namco Studios also worked on hit titles such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and the latest in the Smash series, Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Bandai Namco has also built quite a name for itself with other big titles like Tekken, Pac-Man, and Soul Calibur.
Still, it's better to show, not tell. If the trailers have anything to say about it, New Pokémon Snap will be a title that was worth the wait and possible one of the best games on the Nintendo Switch.
New Pokémon Snap releases on April 30, 2021.
