Why the Nintendo Switch OLED is the console to get this holiday season
Many people are currently scouring Black Friday deals and looking for the best video game console to grab as a holiday gift this year. Competition is strong between the Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch OLED in particular. I love all three gaming systems, but I always recommend the Switch to people first.
Now, the Xbox Series X and PS5 are miles ahead of the Switch when it comes to graphics and performance, not to mention that all three have exclusive games and franchises that you can only access from their respective consoles. So if you're buying for someone who wants a very specific game, make sure to get the console that it plays on. However, the Nintendo Switch OLED's hybrid nature makes it a device you can enjoy more often than any other console, and it's easier to share with players of all skill levels.
Play anywhere you want
When the Switch is placed on its dock, you can play the best Nintendo Switch games on your TV. But, you can also pull it out of the dock and bring it with you wherever you go. This mobile capability has made it easy for people to set it up in their cars to entertain their kids for hours during road trips and vacations. As for myself, I always take it with me whenever I get on an airplane or need to wait somewhere for long stretches, like at the DMV. Its small size makes it easy to transport, so I can pass the time more enjoyably, especially when I have my Switch OLED carrying case handy to keep it safe.
That OLED display is 🔥
While the Switch has been around since 2017, the Switch OLED just launched this October and features a gorgeous OLED display that's larger than any previous Switch's screen has ever been. Colors also come through much clearer and crisper, especially darker hues that have a cloudy appearance on older Switch models. It's more apparent on some games than others, but now that I've experienced it, I never want to go back to using that older Switch screen, which looks seriously small and outdated now.
Play games with others more easily
Whether you're looking for something fun to play with a young child, a competitive party game to enjoy with peers, or a solo adventure, there's something for everyone. But the Switch excels in local multiplayer games more than any other console, making it the perfect console to share with the whole family.
The new Switch OLED model has an improved kickstand that runs along the entire back of the console rather than having the flimsy kickstand flap from the original, so it won't fall over when in tabletop mode. Additionally, the Joy-Cons slide on and off of the console and can be turned sideways to act as individual controllers. So, if you want to start an impromptu multiplayer game with a friend while on the go, you just push out that stand, pull the controllers off the sides, and pass one to your buddy.
With other consoles, it's far more common for games to require that every player have a separate console and copy of a game to play against each other online, but multiplayers abound on the Switch! While most allow for up to four players, some can even host as many as eight from one console. Put the Switch in docked mode, and you'll have a party going with everyone concentrating on the TV, as long as you have enough Joy-Cons to go around.
